Silence is like water, every day there is less
December 19th, 2011Carlos Martínez is approaching 2012 and his 30th stage anniversary with great excitement. He has worked on a new show, “Mirage”, which he will perform in combination with all-time audience favourites of the past three decades. Inspired by the discussion around climate change and water shortage, which has always been an issue in his home country of Spain, the programme refers to our most precious and most natural resource: water. And as in previous shows, in “Mirage” he leaves both the interpretation of the images he paints in the spectators’ minds and the conclusions they reach, up to the imagination of each person. You will find all the Mirage tour dates and theatre locations on the web agenda. Carlos Martínez would be delighted to greet you personally at the end of the show throughout this celebration year.
Carlos Martínez presents his book, From the Dressing Room, in La Central del Raval
November 26th, 2011Carlos Martínez tells stories with movement, gesture and emotion. Stories without words. When he speaks into the silence at the end of a performance, his words resonate deep inside. In his book the actor takes us into his dressing room before a performance and allows us to experience the moments when the artist is the most vulnerable, contemplative and mischievous. As he opens up this intimate space, he breaks his silence, and finally gives words to his unspoken stories. Thursday, 1st December at 7PM in the Barcelona bookshop, La Central del Raval (Elisabets, 6). www.lacentral.com

What is your favourite hideaway in Barcelona?
August 8th, 2011Park Güell, in the morning, when there are not many people around. It is a pleasure to sit on one of the benches and read a book or write a letter while enjoying a spectacular panoramic view of the city of Barcelona.
“The time reading your book was enchanting. At any moment I can read it again and look at the photos that say so much.”
June 24th, 2011Over the past week Carlos Martínez has presented his book “Desde el camerino” in the Press Room of the Liceu Opera House in Barcelona and in the Professors’ Conference Room at the RESAD (Royal Institute for the Interpretive Arts) in Madrid. A book is never finished until the reader opens the pages and begins to interact with the words and ideas and images. The author experiences this moment with joy but also with a sense trepidation as the first pages are turned. Thanks to everyone who came to the press conferences, thanks to all those who took part in the events and very especially to each person who invests time, imagination and silence entering into the dressing room of Carlos Martínez. June 6th, 2011Today we are unpacking the newly printed English and Spanish versions of the book of Carlos Martínez. If you would like to preview this new publication: www.carlosmartinez.es/#/en/catalogue
“At the centre of the performances that I have seen, both live and in recordings, there is a heart that is continually breaking and being mended, a dimension of pain and compassion that can allow audiences a new appraisal of their own experiences. As you read these pages you will undoubtedly encounter the wit and the warmth of this exceptional performer. He reveals a vulnerability that is essential to the creative process, and willingness to laugh at the absurd. My only complaint about Carlos writing humour is that he does it far too well.”

Breaking News from Carlos Martínez in Budapest
May 12th, 2011It was at the beginning of the 90’s when I was invited to Hungary to perform in various cities around the country. I landed at the Budapest airport with my makeup and my passport (the two most important things for a mime actor). Excited about stepping onto Hungarian stages for the first time, I presented my passport at the police control. While the official looked over my document, I could see in his face that something was wrong. Sure enough, my passport had expired!
The next day, after spending the night in an improvised bed next to one of the airport counters, someone approached me speaking in my own language. He was the cultural attaché of the Spanish Embassy. After much discussion and paperwork, he was able to make me a new passport.
Now 20 years later, I return to Budapest with my makeup and my passport. And, by the way, neither of them has expired.
